Hi all,

Daughter was sick travelling in her car seat.

Taking her seat out and the belt has stuck and won't release. Picked her seat up to try and feed the belt back in and it took it and still won't release.

Her car seat can't be used now.

Waiting on mechanics to get back to me but is there anything I can do? Seems impossible to get to the seatbelt mechanism.

Other choices are to cut the belt and have it replaced but no idea on cost.

Break her car seat and buy a generic one and hope the seatbelt releases.

We are 4 hours from home so a bad time for it to happen.

They are built into the seat back I think? I had similar with my Leon Cupra R back in the day.

Not an instant fix by any means, but I doused the inside of the reel with WD40 (aimed the tube down where the belt goes), and after an hour or so (presumably once the wd40 had penetrated the entire reel and mechanism), it finally started to work normally again.

probably tension on it, put the seat down and see if you can get to the mechanism from the boot area, probably remove the carpet and you'll get to it.

Not sure if this affects your car, but make sure your parked on level ground and haven't got 2 wheels on the kerb!

If not, take it to a garage to sort it.

Is the bench split? If so can you lift the other half up and remove the bolt\screw where the seatbelt is fastened too.
I have had to to this on my Mondeo when the seatbelt jammed as i hadnt fastened it when putting the seats flat.

Back in the day, you were supposed to drive your car to about 5mph and stamp on the brake and then do the same in reverse and it was said to move a ball bearing that was locking the belt. No idea if modern ones work this way.

Meh. I thought I'd come in to a thread where the OP was being held hostage in the back seat of his A4.

GD has ruined me :(
