So i'm in the process of building my first PC but somethings not right.

Now i've installed my Extreme 4 Gen 3 Asrock mobo into a Zalman Z9 case and screwed it into place but the allignment seems off.. the IO components are not coming out far enough and i am unable to apply the back bracket of my Antec Kuhler 620 fan to the back of my CPU as half of two of the screw holes for the CPU fan on the mobo are behind the metal of the case.. it's as if the mobo needs to be pushed more to the left but i obviously can't do that else the mobo screw holes would not allign with the standoffs..

Really not sure what do.. it's like the case or mobo has been built wrong or they are not compatible with one another.. :s

Help please!

Check motherboard stand-offs firstly.

Also, on the motheroboards I/O shield there are sometimes metal flappy bits (not really sure how to describe them) but they cover things like ethernet ports or digital/SPDIF audio, if they haven't been removed then the motherboard doesnt fit properley. I've made this mistake before.

Ok. So here is my mobo in place as it is currently in my case.

Here is where the IO components aren't correctly in place.

And here is where my CPU fan screw holes are covered.

As you can see in the first pic i have no room to move the motherboard across anymore.. what's up..?

Also i'm 99% sure the stand offs are correctly in place, but even if they weren't the mobo still wouldn't be correctly alligned.. as i said it needs to be moved to the left more but i have no room to do so.. :s

Have you tried the alignment of the PCI devices like a graphic card? Maybe the CPU cut out on the case was not designed with enough tolerance for your motherboard. In which case you would need to fit the cooler before inserting the MB.

Fit the backplate for the cooler before you fit the motherboard??

Generally it's a lot easier that way round.

I cannnot get the back bracket of the antec kuhler to allign with the CPU holes.. ffs.

It says instal the brackets into the holes corresponding with my GPU socket which is 1155, yet the holes only have options for 1156, 1366 and 775 but none of them allign. AAAAAAAASRGHHHHH!!!!@@@

Looking at my Kuhler 620 manual, there are NO mounting holes for skt 1155 in the mounting plate.

Even the diagram shows that, yet on Antec they list skt 1155.

Are you using the tension clips the right round, they must face inward for 1156,1366, but outward for 775 in the metal retaining ring?

I thought I used the skt 775 setting for my i5 2500K, but haven't got pc here to check that, might be wrong, but i just can't remember.

I did find it easier to fit retention ring & backplate while the motherboard was out of the case though.

This is after you have taken the mother board out right?

The 1156 bracket is exactly the same as 1155.

With the motherboard out of the case I cannot see why the 1155/6 bracket on the cpu cooling head does not fit your motherboard :)

Unless the holes on the motherboard are off, but I doubt it.

I reckon thats what he's doing, he has some of the LGA 775 lined up and thats not allowing the others to line up.

I have the extreme7 and have the same issue with the io port, I have removed all but the very small 'flappy' bits as shadow boxer called them. due to this I can't use the onboard graphics to run the system(if my graphics cards break etc) when the board is in the case, although as the regulars should know by now that is a moot point as my board is currently out of comission.
