Ok guys,

I got the following:

New:
Fractal Define R4
Z87X-D3H Motherboard
i7-4770
16gb Crucial RAM
Arctic i30

Old:
Crucial M4 256GB
Corsair TX750W (i'm pretty sure it's rev. 1)
2x Samsung HD103SJ 1TB
XFX GTX 260 (currently not using it as I need to find whats going on first).

Problem:
The SSD works fine. The HDDs do not power on. When I hit the power button you can hear a short buzzing sound in the hdds like they are trying to power on but nothing happens. I thought this was something to do with the motherboard and I got a replacement, but the new one was just installed and same issue.

I tried BIOS update, different sata ports, tryin only 1HDD at a time on the same sata port as my SSD. Right now I am using only the SSD and all works just fine, but I have no idea why the HDDs wont power on. THey are working as I had them in previous system and I tested them in another system yesterday.

Please help!

I would first look at double checking all the connections from the psu to the board and components and then test with another psu.

Ok I tried something else just now.

While in the system is powered on and in windows I connected one of the HDDs and it powered on. It wasn't detected, but I rebooted the system and this time it was detected.

However, I shut it down instead of reboot and then powered it on and the HDD tried to power on but it couldn't. It started making a cracking noise like it is broken and I quickly shut it down. Then I repeated the first thing I did and it is working...

I am so confused right now!

Sounds like a short with the case on either the hard drives or motherboard. Build it outside of the case and try again

Interesting. I will try this now.

Are the SATA Power cables directly linked to the PSU or are they attached to a molex?
Might be that the molex is damaged/not connected properly.

Direct.

Btw thanks a lot for the quick responses.

Unfortunately, no luck outside the case. :( I am gonna go mad over this.

EDIT: I just tried something else. I removed the sata cable and only left the power connected to the hdd. It starts up just fine. If I add the sata data cable, the hdd would not power on.

Ok guys. Thanks again for all the help.

I emailed Gigabyte support yesterday and after several suggestions from them, they suggested that I update the firmware on the HDDs and provided LINK.

I just did it and they boot just fine. I know feel stupid for requesting a replacement before getting help from someone.

Thanks again for your contributions!
