URGENT HELP NEEDED -NORTON ANTI VIRUS 2009

I’ve installed (unwisely) Norton Anti Virus 2009 and ran a scan, it has identified some items as Trojans where I know this is not the case. The vtcpak32.dll for the Deep Paint Plug in for example.
In Norton’s Help File it says:

To restore an item from the Quarantine
1. In the Security History window, in the Quarantine view, select the item that you want to restore.
2. Click More Details.
3. In the Advanced Details window, under Actions, click Restore & Exclude.
4. In the Quarantine Restore window, click Yes.
5. Click Close.

Now the problem I have is that when I go to item 3 above, Norton does not show Restore & Exclude, merely “Restore” (other options submit to Symantec or Remove from History), so I have used the “Restore” option, I then get a box asking me to confirm and when I opt for yes it restores the item but Norton immediately identifies the item and places it back in quarantine.

Any advice? I’ve installed this as a 14 day trial and the trial runs out in a couple of days, I’d like to be able to restore the items, uninstall NAV and go for something else, having said that I’ve just upgraded to Kaspersky 2009 from version 7 and 2009 seems much less user friendly than version 7

Can you check the program files\symantec\nav\quarantine folder and see if it's there? (I think that's the path).

edit: might be C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\Quarantine

Thanx but that won't helpme. I've managed to locate the file you mention, unfortunately it is marked in Blue and does not show the files in their original configuration.

No there is definately something adrift with the Main Norton Program where it doesn't seem to allow false positives back into the system. Each time I restore an item Norton recognises as a threat again and back it goes into the quarantine file (a bit like the sorcerer's apprentice)

No in quarantine I do not have the option to Restore and Exclude, only Restore and that's where my problem lies. Fortunately it is on my laptop which I don't use very much, on my main desktop I've just installed KIS and I'm getting other false positives regarding msxcl.dll files etc.

How are other people dealing with false positives in NAV?

Blue file means it's compressed. That totally figures that Norton would use some proprietary way of doing it.

I would try (1-Get rid of Norton!): create a compressed folder with Explorer. Drag file to that folder, then uncompress the folder.

Hey, anything's worth a try.

How are other people dealing with false positives in NAV?
By staying well clear of it. :D

We have the technology, we can re-build you!

I've just looked in Windows Explorer and I've never seen so many entries regarding Norton/Symantec, old system works, NAV 2005 etc. I thought when I'd installed KIS just over a year ago that KIS had cleared them out. I don't use my laptop much nowardays, it's usually gathering dust under the stairs but I had to use it a couple of weeks ago and KIS had ran out so I (UNWISELY - that word again) went for a two week free trial of Norton. Hey I can't blame it on the follies of youth, `cus I'm old enough to have known better;)

Thanx
