Urgent help needed regarding a wired router!

If you've already got a modem then that would work fine. :)

How come you aren't going for a modem router though by the way? Most ISP's give them out free, even though they're usually Netgear and not that sought after they still serve a purpose. :)

By the way, just incase you weren't aware, your modem will need an ethernet output so that you can plug it into the router.

This would probably be more what you'd require: Clicky

I tried ringing them up earlier today but they couldn't provide me with a router that had as many ports as i initially wanted. Furthermore i feared their offering could be pretty useless, so i thought i would be better off getting a product from here.
Thanks for the advice though.

No. That's a switch, you'd still need a router.

You say "modem", can you give the model number? Not many ADSL modems about these days so it maybe an ADSL router already. Unless you are on Virgin cable and you are refering to the cable modem.

the modem is a thompson speedtouch 510, its what my isp provided when i initially got the broadband connection. I'm not on virgin, i use utilities warehouse.
and as far as i'm aware the modem does have an ethernet output.

Ah, in that case you need any ADSL router, and if the 4/5 ports are not enough for you, then you'd need to add a switch to increase the numbers.

I've not seen any ADSL routers bar a Cisco 18xx with more than 5 ports.

Speedtouches are rubbish, especially the old ones that Virgin used to send out.

You should click on the link I provided you, and get a Netgear DG834.

How many ports do you need exactly? You can just get a hub to plug in extra PC's, most routers come with enough ports to plug in 4 extra computers. If you find this is not adequate then the options are to buy a hub to connect extra PC's to, or to go wireless.
