Running XP SP3. Uninstalled ASUS IO drivers, defragged, and rebooted. I was then greeted by a black screen.

I restarted, same again. So restarted again and tapped F8 to get into Safe Mode - the last file to be displayed was Windows\syetem32\drivers\mv61xxmm.sys and it hangs there.

Used XP in recovery mode, CHKDSK /p and FIXMBR haven't worked.

Really need this sorted ASAP as I'm using a netbook right now. :(

Head into your BIOS and reset everything to failsafe defaults. I'm guessing Windows is looking for these drivers that you uninstalled.

Since they are the IO drivers, Windows is probably hanging while searching for certain devices which where recognised before.
Try unplugging all peripherals, including KB/ mouse and then boot to see if it still hangs.
