*URGENT* Help Needed!!

Ok this is what ive just bought.

Tuniq Tower
500GB sata HDD (AAKS)
New sata DVD Drive

Basically took out my old IDE HDD with XP on and put in my new SATA hard drive. Swapped the new CPU cooler over, installed the DVD drive and plugged in my old 160GB sata drive. So there is no IDE hardware in.

I press the power button, it turns on and everythnig seems to be doing stuff but my montior just has the idle orange light on. All the fans are spinning and everything seems to be fine.

Is the SATA connection like the IDE (in which the Primary has to be at the end of the line, then the middle is secondary etc etc)?

Also I have a GA-965P-DS3 Rev 1.0 and am looking at the motherboard wondering if I have the 500GB hdd plugged into the wrong slot on the mobo. This is a pic of it, I currently have my main HDD plugged into the far right orange slot and the DVD drive in the 2nd orange slot.

Anyone know what the problem is? Please Help :(
 
Do you hear a beep (only one beep) when the computer starts? That indicates that the computer has post'd and is booting. You can also remove the hard drive connection from the board and try and boot it, but I cannot see how a hard drive would make a difference to no display on monitor. I would just double check the cables at the computer end, and also at the monitor end to make sure they have no wiggled out, also try and switch the cable from the 1st graphics card output to the second one (not sure if you have dual DVI on yours or not...).

SATA drives don't have master/slave, it's just all master. As long as you plug the drives into the yellow ports you are golden, as plugging them into the purple slots will require a driver to be installed before you can install your operating system.

Also, you can reset the CMOS, it's quick / easy and could fix any issues :)


But I'd be looking at the graphics card being seated properly / dodgy vga or dvi wire, or it's not plugged in properly... mainly because SATA hard drives or dvd drives can't stop the monitor coming on, even if they were both broken / doa.

The thing is I just want a completely fresh start. The HDD with XP on has been scrapped. The plan was, get new 500GB hard drive install Vista, Plug in my old SATA (just with games and downloads) and then it working :(
 
Tried swapping the DVI slots on my GTS and still no luck. Im really confused as it all looks right...How do I reset the CMOS? easily done?

Remove the battery out of the motherboard, leave it out for 10 minutes, then put it back in.
 
Hmm, did I read that wrong. Just double checking... currently you don't have the PCI-E power cables plugged into the 88 ? Or you do have them plugged in and are asking what would happen if you took it out?
 
One thing i would try is re-seating your cpu...and possibly unscrewing the screws on your tuniq? Might have too much pressure on the socket.

When you turn your computer on do your fans spin up reasonably quick and then slow down a bit...or do they stay at a constant fast speed?

But before all of that, I suggest you unplug the power and data cables from both the hdd and the dvd-rom, as these 'can' stop a system from posting.

TBH it jsut sounds like a computer starting up. All the startup beeps are going on. Nothnig out of the ordianary. Just my monitor cant detect the PC for some reason...:confused:

Im not sure the Tuniq is doing anything. I cant determind weather its wroking or not...Would the monitor not come on is the CPU cooler wasnt working correctly?

I left the motherboard battery out all night to clear the CMOS but still hasnt helped. I think the motherboard is ******. Its the only thing left.

You mean what the cable that plugs the CPU cooler into the mother board? Yes. But somethnig that did confuse me about this, was that on the motherboard where it has CPU_FAN. There is 4 pins, and the cable for the Tuniq Tower only has 3. I plugged it into this, even thoguh there was 1 pin still exposed, does this matter?

misterPK is talking about the 4 pin CPU power connector from the PSU to the mobo, not the CPU_FAN connector (which by the way is fine with 3 pins).
 
Ahh right then Yes to both. Although there is two of those 4 pin power connectors at the end of the same wire. I may try the other one and see if tat works. After Ive been to work sadly :(. Cheers guys, keep the ideas coming along.
 
It's the Tuniq, the backplate is causing a short. It's a common problem.

I sold someone that exact same mobo and he couldn't get his PC to boot, after sending it back to me for testing I found it working perfectly, and we discovered his Tuniq Tower 120 was causing a short on the mobo (possibly contacting the case.)

I don't remember how he fixed it, probably bought a new cooler lol.
 
Worth a try, which is why i always try to get people to diagnose problems outside of the case to rule out annoying issues like back plates etc :P

Try removing the tuniq back plate then, see if that helps.

To be honest, my system stopped working once, it would power up, but the fans wouldnt ramp down, found out it was my motherboard in the end, every other component worked fine. Swapped the board out and everything was lovely.
