I just completed a new build for my friend, installed windows etc, then took it round to his house and the mouse+keyboard don't work when i boot it up. They both light up, (and keyboard works in bios), but they're both USB, and when i installed everything at my house i used really old ps/2 mouse/keyboard. Anyone got ANY ideas at all?

In bios make sure that enable usb thingy is on. Just go though and look for the usb parts and enable them.

EDIT-dr.sarf beat me to it!

I know what you mean - so many peole on this forum by the time you have made your reply, 7 other people have made theirs. lol

Let us know if that works mate.

Use the PS2 keyboard and mouse to go into device manager in windows and search for new hardware or boot it up with them unplugged, and then plug them in once in windows. It should detect the new USB devices and then they should work, just sounds like for some reason windows isnt detcecting them.

I found that with my system unless I installed windows with my USB mouse connected, it wouldn't recognise it at all. I found out the hard way though. Mind you there may be a way of doing it, I just don't have enough patience.

that seems a bit rediculas to never be able to use a usb keyboard after that. You must have missed something.

haven't tried dr.sarf (wouldn't be able to tell anyway) , but the lights come on the keyboard when i boot the keyboard up and the red light comes on the mouse, keyboard works 100% in bios, i've tried all 6 usb ports.

EDIT : when it loads windows, it loads the msconfig start-up message because i disabled some programs starting when it boots up, so it boots faster (msn, xfire etc), and the windows update has been disabled message in a bubble in the bottom right. "ADD NEW HARDWARE" window comes up but doesn't specify mouse/keyboard and can't click next...etc :(

I had a similar problem. Installed Windows Using nLite, but once it was running i took out the kb and mouse. No matter what I tried I couldnt get it to pick up the kb and mouse (both USB) after. In the end I reinstalled Windows again but left the kb and mouse in. It was on a SFF iDEQ with an nForce 2 mobo

no becasue the mouse doesn't have it's own driver CD or downloadable drivers.

and if you don't it installed during installation of windows, then windows recognise it needs to install the default windows mouse drivers.
