Hi, I just built my system in a nice Fractal R2 case. Installed win7 and left it. Came back to it and win7 was in power saving mode. I couldn't wake it up or power down.

I shut it down from the psu switch and now I can't get my 'puter to power back on with the power button.

Any help would be great, thx.

Is the PSU fan spinning ?

Are there any motherboard lights ?

Does the mobo have an onboard 'power on' switch/button ?

Are there any motherboard lights ? Just a lit green led

Does the mobo have an onboard 'power on' switch/button ? Nope it's an Asus p5k premium

I'm assuming that I have killed the psu. It's a Corsair hx650w.

You haven't killed the psu mate.

By switching it off at the psu switch you've done nothing to damage it.

Motherboard lights suggest that power is getting through.

It sounds like the case power switch is faulty.

In which case you might need to start it by crossing the motherboard headers manually.

Do you have a spare PSU?

If not try one of the mobo switch packs from the place that begins with M on the retail parks and use the power switch out of there plugged straight onto the mobo.

good luck matey, we share your pain!

My mate is popping over today with a spare psu. So I'll let you know what happens. Thx for your support :)

Nope I don't know about jumpstarting the psu.

Its a very simple way to test if your PSU is working.

All you need is a paperclip.

Google for ' how to jumpstart a psu '

There are plenty of guides.

Read them first, so you understand what you are doing.

If the PSU fan spins up using this method, then your PSU is sound.

This will tell you if your power supply is working, or not.

^dangerous but worth it, also try putting the PSU into another pc?
or since its modular try another 20+4pin thing.

Hi, im back up and running now.

The problem was something to do with the BIOS settings getting corrupt when it went into sleep mode.

I took the CMOS batt out and reset using the jumper. After that it fired back into life. Totally strange and I never seen that solution coming. Gotta thank my mate for that tip :D

Thanks to everyone for there great advice. I have taken everything on board for future reference :)
