Hey

Pretty ****** off right now.. just "lost" loads of my A level ICT coursework on my Macbook - no Leopard on it =/

I had 2 documents open in Pages when I wanted to close one.. hit apple button + Q.. discard all changes... crap its all closed.

SURELY it auto saves it?

or anywayto get it back?

cheers

cmd-W to close a Window. cmd-Q quits the current application. Obviously that doesn't help you right now, but for future :)

Fundamental flaw as far as I am concerned. Had a problem with Kernal panics last week and lost quite a bit of work in pages each time it happened!

Even though Word autosaves I still habitually press the save icon every time I make progress on a document.

That harks back from the days I didn't know such a feature existed.

CMD-S on Mac or Ctrl-S on windows since I started using Office type apps back when I was 13... I never really trusted auto-saves, also, if you've "discarded" all and not save, all your auto-saves aren't going to be worth much unless you've clicked save at intervals...

Hope you've learnt this once and never let it slip again :)

P.S thanks artaxerxes, I never knew Pages don't support auto-saves, eventho they aren't very much needed for me, least it's something to take note of.

It's fundamental knowledge that apple+Q quits the program - which means it gets rid of all the documents you have open in it. Apple+W, as Sic said, will just close the document you're looking at. I don't see how Pages can be blamed for this, it's a pretty basic error.

Auto save would not help because you discarded the document, Word only opens auto-saves when your app crashes, save files which are important regularly. Leopard would not have helped here either because you did not save the file.

Well I learnt my lesson.. just pretty bummed it'd gone.. redid it all though - even added some extra detail.

But also - it didn't give a warning for each document.. just a general "would you like to discard the changes?" I *think*.

I know this. I was commenting on the fact Pages doesn't have an auto-save full stop. A stick of my ram died last week, which caused all sorts of frequent kernel panics. As you can imagine, the first time I had a kernel panic, I lost all my work. Nothing there for me to recover.

(Obviously from then on I was saving pretty much ever minute or so)
