I have just upgraded my old q6600 to my new i5 system.

i have an i5 2500k with a p8p67 PRO mobo, its powered fine however when it goes through the boot process it cant seem to find any drives and it wont boot.
Well it says it cant find any drives and yet when i go into the bios i can see my HDD there. so it just wont boot... what could be wrong?

the automatic setting was AHCI more which it was set on. i have just changed it to IDE mode and it has booted however i still need to change it to AHCI mode..keep an eye on this thread just incase it all goes wrong for me haha

ah ill need to do that then....

i did just boot however it wouldnt connect to the internet and after reseting it says that it cant find the drive again.

its not connecting to the internet...i think im going to try to format and then re-install windows on the HDD and see if that works with the new hardware. and i thought this was going to go together eaily!

im confused, you have built a new system and just dumped your HDD over? sometime the bios will boot from it, other times it wont, but when it does boot you have no internet? have you installed the drivers for the new mobo, do you have more than 1 HDD installed, if so is the HDD priority right in the bios? or am i completly missing something. sorry loooon tiresome day at work.

ive upgraded mobo/cpu/RAM and have used GFX cards and HDD's but for some reason it will boot from my main HDD...yet it says that i cant find one in the process (if that makes sence)

also are the driver updates on the CD?

considering i dont have access to the internet.

the cd should have drivers yes, may not be the most current but if the LAN is not the same chipset as before then you wont have internet until some form of driver goes on for it.

reinstalling is the best option as there will be left overs from the previous hardward, driversweep or something would do if you didnt want a fresh install, but its always better to start again.
that wont help with it not showing a drive on post/boot though i dont think.

ok so i just asked the CD drive to be the first boot option and it just loaded into windows and didnt go to the install option. i might just format my hard drive

got it working now. just had to jiggle with boot settings a bit and restart. it did give me the option to delete all of my files so im going to do that becaause i backed up. hopefully installing windows again will sort it!
