Urgent help please winpeshl.exe error cant boot

Hi all

Help required please. My daughter has called round asking me to fix her Advent laptop because it wont boot and gives the above error. Her worry is that her wedding photographs and footage of her daughter are on the laptop. No she did not back up!!!!

I have tried to boot from all alternative modes including safe mode and the error remains never allowing me to get to windows Vista screen.

She does not have a recovery disk etc either.

I cannot figure out how to:
A) get it to boot to windows
B) some how get the data off her HDD

She is threatening to take it to PC world!!!

Any advice appreciated.

Obviously your first priority is to backup the files. I'd download/burn a Linux Live CD, such as Ubuntu (though any should work). Restart your PC with the CD in and boot from it. It should let you launch Ubuntu from the CD without installing anything. From there you should be able to browse the hard disk and backup your files to CD/USB etc.

To repair Vista you can try booting from the Vista installation CD (any should work, just make sure you match up an x64 disc to an x64 install of Vista - if in doubt just try it) from there there should be able to try a startup repair. Here's a guide on how to do it.
