I thought my belkin router was knackard as the computer would not recognize the lan connection ie windows said the network was unadentified.
I reset the router and motherboard lan but nothing . It wont log into the router using 192.168.1.1 either.
So bought a new asus n13 router pluged it in input my adsl settings from xilo internet and worked fine. Power went of an now the router is same as belkin cant log into it to change settings.but asus said it cant log into router as the computer and device are on a different subnet its way over my head . The computer is set to obtain everything automatically how can i fix this :-(

I think subnet mask of computer is 255.255.0.0 but routers are on 255.255.255.0

Go into Control Panel and then Network and Sharing Center

Click on the Adaptor you want to change (if its not here then click on 'Change adaptor settings')

Once the adaptor screen is open, click on 'Details' and see what IP your PC has been given and if its DHCP Enabled (I know you said it was, but I just want to see what IP your PC has compared to the router)

If you want to manually assign an IP then close that screen and then click on Properties on the other screen.

From there, click on Internet Protocol Version 4 and it should open up another box where you can change your IP.

All you do is make sure your PC is on the same network as the router (If router is 192.168.1.1 and subnet 255.255.255.0 then put your IP as 192.168.1.101 for testing and same Subnet as router, then default gateway is router IP and DNS servers can be router IP or any you specify (most people use google 8.8.8.8))

Click OK so it closes the screen and then close the other screens. Now test to see if you've got a connection or can atleast log in to the router to change settings.
