Just installed my new RAM (Corsaire Vengence 2x4GB) into my HP ML110 G7 server and upon powering up a loud bleeping noise started with a Red flashing light coming on and off. According to the legends, this light refers to system health and if blinking red it means system critical.

wtf??

Can you get into bios? What speed is the ram?

I normally log in remotely but when i couldn't do so i hooked up the monitor and it wasnt displaying anything. I Haven't tried putting the original 2gb back in or just 1 4gb slot until i got a few answers.

The board/system runs at 1333mhz and the RAM i got is 1600 but i was told it would run at the lower speed with no problems

I don't really know what answers we can give you.

I suggest you try what you posted above or possibly clear the CMOS if you can live with all the BIOS settings being reset.

Try putting the old RAM back first just to make sure that there hasn't coincidentally been some other failkure.

Ok, i'll try that now.

Whats all stored on cmos?

Looks like it needs EEC ram and the Corsair isnt EEC

Yeah that's not atypical of servers. Error correcting RAM is way of ensuring that the data isn't corrupted. In situations where you're using hundreds if not thousands of servers to do some intensive calculations the last thing you want is for a 1 bit error in your RAM to cause all your efforts to fail, hence why ECC is used extensively on servers. I'd recommend using Cruicial's memory checker - with that you can check your computer model number and ensure you order the correct specification for additional memory you purchase.

Just been on their website and they dont even list HP.

 I wonder if it can be exchanged by ocuk?? :(

Sorry mate, i was on about the Corsair website. Im blinded by my rage and picked you up wrong :D

Thanks for the help.

At least the servers ok. Worst comes to worst im sure i can shift the RAM and take it from there.

Got the correct RAM today however i selected the 8gb stick opposed to 2 by 4gb sticks.

After booting up the server successfully this time, upon going into my computer properties its showing 10gb registered but still only using the original 2gb stick.

Can i ultilise 10gb or would i be best just to remove the 2gb and put in the 8gb??

Thought i might get a few more hits in this section!!

Took out the 2gb and put in the new 8gb (1x 8GB stick) but still getting errors :(

If the mother board has 4 RAM bay with a maximum of 16gb in total, does that mean the maximum RAM per channel is limited to 4gb?

Hang on a mo.

I ordered:

And got

Did you mange to sort out your memory problem in the end? what kind of memory did you buy that worked in this box? ECC or NON-ECC

I trying to figure out if i can get 32GB in to of of these ML110 G7, Xeon E3-1220 Servers
