hi i have finished building my pc today but:

Motherboard: ASUS Crosshair III
Graphics Card: XFX ATI 4890
CPU: AMD Phenom II 720BE
RAM: Corsair XMS3 DHX 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1600C9DHX Twin3X
CPU Cooler: ThermoLab Baram CPU Cooler
CPU Fan: Akasa AK-FN057 Apache Super Silent 120mm Fan - 4 Pin PWM

the small LCD analiser screen just blinks 'CPU INIT'
the case fans work but the CPU fan tries to spin but stops after the first second.
there are three red lights coming on and off on the Graphics card
there's no sound
USD connected VGA screen doesn't react at all

The CPU and RAM were preinstalled by Overclockers for me and the CPU has been overclocked to 3.3.

Haven't bought Op/Sys yet.

Any ideas please - this is my first build and am seriously stuck!
Thanks

Its possible that whilst preinstalled the RAM (quite possibly) or CPU (not very likely) got knocked in transit, take them out and put them back in ensuring good fit, make sure your fan is correctly fitted and the power lead plugged into mobo where it says cpu fan. Ensure all your connections are good, and you have both 6 pin connections to gfx card.

thanks i'll try that, the fan power cable is in cpu fan,on the graphics card theres a 8 pin connector and a 6 pin so i put a single 6pin in the 6 pin and a 6/8 pin connector in the 8 pin

is that wrong?

Check the power connector is in the 8 pin port at the top left of the motherboard! And yeh thats right for the gpu.

according to asus it means ur stuck at cpu initialisation. maybe try different ram configs, 1 stick, different slots etc

there's a CLR_CMOS button on the back of case,it's disabled on the mobo but can easily enable it,dont know whether that could have anything to do with it.
when i received mobo it was disabled

that shouldnt affect it, but you never know. Just double check all your connections etc and like i say try diff ram configs

the start power button is illuminated,as is the logo on the northbridge

This and the flashing lights/fans trying move is exactly what happened to me the other day.

All i did was make sure all my power connectors were in place by removing them and putting them back in. I think it was the motherboard 24pin that was slightly loose.

ive try different configs for ram and still same problem, the graphics card fan is still stopping and starting.i have my gpu in the PCI Express x16_1 slot which seems to be sitting on top of the southbridge and the cmos power battery is underneath it

ive reconnected the cables and still same problem,i'll reconnect cpu and cooler but might take me a while lol as its my first time building.
it still comes up with cpu init

the fan on graphics card is spinning but somewhere inside the card it sounds like another fan is revving up then stopping for a sec then repeating.the outside fan on graphics card is definitely spinning fine though.

the cooler fan trys to turn when the fan revving on gpu stops, but it only turns as if someone lightly taps it,so basically nowhere near a full 360 motion
