Did you press any key to boot from CD again?! :p

Vista's just being strange by the sound of it. Follow the advice given to you earlier in the thread:

1. Install XP (on a fixed size partition).

2. From XP, insert the Vista CD and start a clean install onto the unpartitioned space. Vista almost certainly won't have a problem with this approach.

i cant believe how much grief im going through for this poxy pc,

i pt xp cd in, it loads set-up files, i select drive for the installation, it loads set-up files, reeboots the pc, then boots from the cd again going over the same stuff?????????
i tried taking disc out then rebooting and it just says disc read error
why the ***k cant i do this??

That's odd... you're not doing the 'press any key' stuff twice are you?

You just press once to boot from cd, then when it reboots you leave it and let it do its thing.

formatted using ntfs, and i litterally just let it reboot after the format and press any key ONCE and it goes to the same "do you want to format this drive for installation" screen???

cant belive i've had this built for a week now and i aint using it

It still isn't clear what you mean here.

You should:

Boot off CD.
Press any key when instructed to.
Follow instructions.
Let it reboot.
DON'T press a key when asked.
Let it boot of the HDD and finish the installation.

i do that and it doesnt boot from the drive after the reboot, if xp cd is still in drive -says "press any key to boot from cd/dvd"
if i take cd out when it reboot's its says "disc read error"??

just tried F12 and selected to boot from hdd (just to make sure), and it said
"A disk read error occurred, press ctrl alt del to restart"

did this-and same thing happens

When it reboots for the first time it's not finished installing. Leave the CD in the drive, don't press any keys and just leave it - the message to boot from cd will dissapear and it will continue with the installation. Eventually it will reboot and load into Windows.

it says disc read error if you take the cd out because it's not finished installing. It says disc read error booting from the hd for the same reason.

as csmager says, let it reboot, don't press anything and it will finish.
