My dads just bought this without consulting me becuase his PC needed a new mobo...

It was only £15 so my dad bought a Asrock 4CoreDual-SATA2 LGA775 but it doesnt support an E6550 (well it says it doesnt on the website anyways)

LINKY

The order hasnt gone through yet so will it even work orrrr should I ring OcUK in the morning and cancel the order?

Just had a quick google and it seems it will work but it will be knocked down to 2Ghz...That sound about right?

I mean I dont think my dad is too arsed aslong as he can play BF2...

it supported my e6600 but i couldnt get any overclock out of it and tbh i didnt like the mobo. fleabay'd

not sure if that cpu would work without it saying on the website or with a bios update. hmm sorry man cant help. Tell your dad Never!!! to buy components without your permission and consultation first!

:p

as previously said, I would cancel and look for another. After quickly looking over the site and checking out the BIOS updates it doesn't seem like it would support your dad's CPU.

You don't have to pay £50 for a board that supports that CPU, ok OCuk will recommend you do as thats really where their prices start, but you can find G31 mobo's around for less and as long as you aren't planning on serious gaming or overclocking many of these boards would suite you at the £35+ range
good luck

Cancel.

That board is solid and supports 1066fsb cpus no problem but as said you'd be lucky to get the FSB over 290x4. I have the Core2 version myself and it still serves as a backup despite the random bashing it's got over the last 2+ years.

However it won't overclock and if it does support your chip then it will be running at 1066 which means 266xCPU multiplier to get the core speed.

Get a cheapie board the supports your cpu and can overclock a little if you want some headroom to play with.

My dad isnt arsed about overclocking he just wants something that will play BF2. As long as he can put the CPU in the motherboard and it will run then thats fine, lol I couldnt care less.

...Hmm maybe I should swap my E6300 with his E6550...

Might as well, it will run at the same speed either way. Both have the 7X multiplier. The E6300 will run fine in the asrock board, same chip I have.

did he get it in the end?

Update :

New motherboard arrived. Put in the E6550, didnt work. Put in my E6300, didnt work. Tried an AGP graphics card, didnt work.
