Hey all,

Just trying to transfer some data from Mac OS 9 to Windows XP and am having quite abit of trouble with some of the files (mainly emails and contacts from OE5 for Mac).

Mac OS 9 seems to embed the file types into the actual file so windows can't read it.

Thanks,

Blighter

Hi, dont know if you figured this out yourself already but heres a guide to doing this conversion using Eudora as an intermediary. You will have to dig through the archive of previous Eudora versions to find an OS9-compatible one but that should be the only gotcha.

OSX also does this as well, but what you can do is transfer them all to windows box and if they are all email files, do a bulk rename and add .dbx or whatever extension is needed

Mac OS (or rather, the HFS file system) uses resource forks rather than file extensions to determine which application is associated with which file.

Renaming the files will work if both versions use the same file format (such as Thunderbird, Eudora and Word) but IIRC there are subtle differences between OE and Entourage's file formats on Mac OS which mean that it's not this straightforward
