Urgent problem with new system build

Took delivery this morning of the following:

Enermax Liberty 500w
Gigabyte DS3
2gb Geil 6400 dual channel kit
Connect3d X1800Xt
Core2duo 6300 (allendale)

Basically I've installed the cpu, memory and gfx card and plugged in the 12v power and the 24pin power, powered the gfx card using one of the pci-x power connectors supplied with the Enermax and plugged the fan on my Zalman 9700 into the cpu-fan connection.
When I power on, the fan on the zalman won't keep turning, it moves a little bit then stops, then does the same again.. at which point obviously I quickly power off. Basically it's like it's stopping and starting, and I don't know why, I think the system fan might have been doing the same but I was more focussed on the cpu so not quite sure. Any help anyone can give is really appreciated!

just had a thought, I do have a connector to connect a system fan to the regular 12v connectors, should I try using that on the cpu fan instead of plugging it directly to the mainboard?

I've had this problem on a Computer I was upgrading lately, My problem was that the power supplies 12v rail (4 block 12v connector) didn't have enough power to handle the power requirements need for this modern board, I did have an adaptor that converted a standard 12v (4 pin line connector) to the 4 block connector.

This worked for me....

500w enermax should have enough power! I don't think it can be that because the 12v only provides power to the cpu.. I think. Everything else is powered by the main 24pin connector.

Problem solved... for some strange reason it seems to want to start, stop, then start up properly. First time I panicked and didn't wait for it. booted into bios, CPU temp around 27C, seems ok :) Don't know what temp these core2duo's normally run at.

I had the same problem and the real solution is to go into your bios and set your fan speed control mode from auto to PWN and if you want the fan to run at full wack all the time disable the option fan speed control method ;)
My conroe runs in the 20s if i leave fan speed to auto but at full speed the fan keeps it at about 14c these are idle temps.

Glad to see your systems all up and running ;)

Just ordered my new PC (custom built), fingers crossed it'll work first time :)

Exactly the same happened with me a few months ago, Zalman would spin for 2 - 3 secs then system would auto power down....I believe its because of a cold boot error...But once its up and running and has been running for a while it should never happen again...

Nice spec, feels good after first build hey :)

Get overclocking and post ya benchies :)
