I have just been making my mum a pc, using a new gfx card (7600GS), new case and psu (sonata2 + antec 450w psu), 1gb ocz platinum ram which works in other computers, and a motherboard + cpu (3200+ venice) which has been lifted from another working pc, i have tried both a 20gb hdd and 60gb hdd and the monitor still remains on standby with an orange light. All fans and lights start etc. I have tried different ram and gfx cards, and no luck, she gets home at 6ish and i would like to surprise her. Thanks in advance :)

Check there is no short between the motherboard and case, to do this, remove all the boards from the case and build the minimum outside the case and power it up, if it works ok, start adding the extra parts until it fails or all work, if it all works then your board was shorting on the case !

Just clarifying - the mobo powers up and you get beep(s)?

Does the mobo have a built in GPU? If so, you may need to connect this to the monitor, go into BIOS and select the PCIe card instead for video output.

cpu fan powers, led's power, PSU powers, case fan powers, no beeps, gfx card fan spins, no onboard gfx, tried building out of case and no luck.

May sound silly but you cleared CMOS?....... incorrect bios settings from a previous setup could be playing up with the bios.

ok, i was going to reseat the cpu when i noticed 2 pins slightly bent, could this be a factor and whats the best way to rectify it, baring in mind they are bent in an "S" bend type way, so i can't see a plausible way to straighten them.
