ive just installed the 16GB Mushkin Radioactive in my Uni computer and i thought i;d run Memtest to make sure it was all ok

It has been running since midday and it is on pass 3

I touched the ram and it is quite warm!!!

I plugged in a room fan and pointed it straight at the open case, im hoping it will be ok

Im still running the test - i am unsure if i should stop it or not...

help much appreciated

You could do with one of those IR thermometers to get the actual temperature. Not sure really how hot modern ram can go?

However if its passing the test I don't see why you should stop it.

you can touch it, but not keep your finger for more than 1 minute

it is hot, but no so hot you cant touch it

Im sorry to laugh but thats like saying my CPU is hot its running at 59degrees celcius!! full load!!

Dude ram gets hot its fine and its normal. Unless you can smell burning then id be worried otherwise chill out lol.

err, no "dude" ram doesnt really get hot - i have built and repaired many machines and never seem ram THIS hot - "Dude"

Well if it's getting too hot there are three options:

1. Not good enough air flow.
2. Voltage it is getting is wrong.
3. Your hammering it with memtest.

If it works and passes memtest then it's fine.

Under normal usage you don't hammer them quite as hard...

yep, it is 1 and 3 combined! :p

anyway, i have pout the room ran pointing right at the open case and they are running as cool as normal :D :D :D

I have had build with toasty warm ram in them.

The question is, what is your cooling setup? If you had the side off your case, this is your problem. With the side off, you do not have the airflowing over the ram. Same as if you have the CPU cooler facingthe wrong way.

Its not more air you need, most probably, just the correct airflow.

Well first you said it gets hot then you said its warm then really warm then you said you can touch it but only up to a minute.

And lastly ''dude'' ram DOES get hot hence why some have ''heat' spreaders.
