Just got a letter from MFI which I did a xmas job with saying I owe them nearly £700 and I write a cheque for them immediately. This is a complete farce as for my december to january wage packet I was paid just over £1100 which I completely earned due to the amount of hours I worked. Now they nail me with this when im out of a job :|

Tried ringing them to get some complete IDIOT on the phone saying ring back monday. What are my rights? I cant afford this by any long stretch and imho its wrong anyway.

Help

The weird thing is their "pay slip" they sent with the letter showing this £700 is for febuary, which I wasnt working nor did I even see this money :S Ideas?

If the £700 didn't go into your bank in February as they claim and you can prove this by bank statements don't worry. Just tell them this in a nice letter, enclose copies of the bank statement and they should hopefully realise oops we have made a mistake.

I'll go with that ty mate. Cant ring MFI HQ until monday morning as im definately ready to rip them a new brown passage over this. This has come at a really bad time and I cant really deal with anymore crap hanging above my head -.-

So I should ring my bank (halifax) and ask them to send me a bank statement asap then write a letter explaining ive not had the payment, which is the truth and enclose that for their reference?

If your with Halifax, you can go online and print off your own statements.

Dont have a printer lol

I'll go with the advice given. Been over the payslip they supplied with a fine tooth comb and it doesnt make sense at all. The pay was basically a whole months worth minus tax and NI leaving 683 quid which I supposedly got. No record of this amount ever on my online banking so my minds abit more rested now.

MFI did the same thing to my sisters boyfriends brother last year which I didnt know until 10 mins ago. Turns out he didnt pay them and as soon as he argued against it they dropped it. Sounds like a sodding scam to me tbh

I may be looking too deep into things but the wording in the letter and the "revised payslip" dont make sense. Firstly the letter suggests I send a cheque for the amount for my attention (the woman who sent the letter).

So basically ive gotta write a cheque in the name of someone I dont know? lol

secondly, the payslips "pay type" has been left blank whilst my january pay slip shows "BACS". Everything else looks real but this looks like a con to me. The letter also has a personal number on it instead of the MFI HQ :S

They tried this last year with my sisters boyfriends brother and he hasnt paid them and they havent got back to him. Sounds dodgy to me, doesnt look real.

edit: plus I rang the number this morning to have it answered instantly by a woman who barely spoke english :S

So you checked online banking and know you didn't receive £700 in February? So what's the issue???!!! Just ignore every single request for payment. If they eventually get their solicitor to send you a letter you can simply reply to the solicitor saying that you did not receive the money, knowing that you have allowed the company to waste a lot of their own time and money chasing after a wild goose.
After all, it's not your responsibility to convince the company you don't owe them money.

aye true im gonna leave it. got bank statements as proof :)
