transferring data from 120gb->120gb hdd (360)

i got the RROD on my UK release date 360 today, luckily i have an elite and now want to move all my data onto the new hdd and new console.

i know the normal process has me moving the licences across to the new console and then redownloading DLC but im under the impression thats for DLC only? well i want my saves moved as well. i have the 120gb kit which includes the cable transfer kit, so will this work..

using the elite, as per the instructions, plug the old hdd into the 360, connect the elite's hdd via the usb cable and use the disc to copy the contents of the hdds so that my saves plus DLC will then be on the black 120gb. then plug the elite's hdd into the 360 then do the licence transfer so that the licences are registered to the elite?

or am i doomed to lose all my saves? (im thinking this will prevent my from downloading all my DLC again -will it?)

help!

erk, its prompting me to connect the drive, which i have (as i can see my saves etc) but its specifically prompting me for the 20gb drive :(

edit: tried reseating my old 120gb and its not letting me go any further.
edit2: tried the 20gb, it gives me the option to start the transfer (the cd i got came with the 120gb hdd kit.)
edit3: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/937279?sd=xbox says i should be able to copy 120->120 but i wonder if i have an old version of the disc or something, my cd sleeve says:

MEDIA SET: X13-59863-01
JDP94120
0207 Part No. X13-45328-02

The part no is the important part, the latest revision is X13-45328-04 and this allows transfer to the 250GB HDD.

However, not sure why you are having problems going from 120GB > 120GB? I heard somewhere you can only transfer content once, so if you transferred 20GB > 120GB before then you wont be able to transfer again... but I'm not sure if theres any truth in that though?

never heard of the transfer once rumour (its not refusing to do so, its just saying it cant see a 120gb as the source), as the drive isnt being recognised so im hoping its because i have an older revision disc..
