urgent windows help!!! :mad:

right on on the family pc in my parents house someone manged to delete or mess up C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\system, because when they load windows i get the message cant start windows C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\system is missing or currupt.

now if that wasnt bad enought some tried to repair the prob by reinstalling windows. now they have 2 installtion the original on windows in the c drive that dont work, and the other on windows.2 that does work.

now on the second istallation the my document file from the first doesnt open and appears to be okb in size.

my question how to fix this problem and is the my document folder from the first installation gone for good (heads may roll if it is).


i tried to get to msdos to do chkdsk but cant get there and the repair feature from the windows cd dont work, it has intstall option but no repair, all when i use the disk the 8 mg unpartition space but the partition when the two windows are in is called partition1 (which im quite sure i never called it that, but could have).

sorry if it jumbled up but i tried everything i can think of short of a clean sweep which i dont wanna do,

any idea?

A bit confusing.... besicaly you have got 2 OS instaled on one HDD?

The only way you can retrieve this data from HDD is by using 3rd party software like recovery partition... and there is no point to use Windows console or PE coz it will not work the way you want it.

what are you trying to do? open their my documents?

what does it say when you try?

if it says access denied you need to take ownership of a folder google it and use the MS link
