Urgent: Windows10 wont install on laptop

I just witched out the HDD in my mum's laptop to an SSD but when i try and install Windows10 from a USB Stick i get to part where you select the drive you want to install on and no matter what I do i get the error "We couldn't create a new partition or locate an existing one. For more information, see the Setup log files."

I've tried deleting the partition to just let windows create one, i've tried creating a partition and ive tried going to the command prompt and using diskpart to create a partition that way. Absolutely nothing works, i get the error message no matter what.

I'm completely stumped :(
 
I'd test it in another PC to make sure its working.

What SSD is it?

Might be worth downloading the manufacturers diagnostic tools to see if there is a Firmware update.
 
I was about to take it out and use disk manager but i decided that should it be my USB stick that's at fault (its USB3) i'll try with an old USB2 stick and work it magically worked.

Go Figure.

Having now installed Windows 10 though for some reason it wont detect my NAS on the network so i cant map any of the drivers.

You can see the NAS, 'DisMuhNAS', under the 'Other Devices' drop down but it is not there in the 'Network' tab on the left nor is there when i attempt to map a network drive. Despite this i cant still login to the NAS GUI through Chrome, Edge etc like normal.

Any ideas?
 
I'd rule out a network issue as you can see the NAS. Likely an authentication issue then.

During setup did you create a Local Account or a Microsoft Account + PIN?

My guess is the second and if that's the case I'm not entirely sure what the solution is as I always use Local Accounts.

Try adding your NAS login information to: Control Panel\User Accounts\Credential Manager >> Windows Credentials, click "Add a Windows Credential" .
(Might need to logout and in again)
 
Tried what you said but no joy :( I've checked every setting I can think of and it all matches my desktop machine so im officially flummoxed.
 
Did you say you have tried the SSD in another PC? If not, i would and format it in that PC first then try it in the lappy

Didn't need to in the end, for some bizarre reason Windows 10 didn't like being on a USB3 stick and worked fine on an old USB2.
