I have a Cannon MG8150 that i connect to my Asus RT-N13U router that has developed a fault. A few months ago it lost connection to the router for no obvious reason and only after resetting the printer and resetting and rebooting the router would it connect.

It happened again the other day but this time nothing would get it to connect. I took it back to John Lewis (it was a present) and they informed simply that they had fixed it but gave no details. Unsurprisingly it still wont connect.

I simply dont know how to diagnose the problem since everything else connects to my router without a problem (desktop PC wired to it, two laptops and two smartphones). The only setting changed on the router from factory defaults is the security (WPA2-Personal) so i cant think whats causing the problem.

I really need the printer working at the moment and having to connect it via usb to my desktop pc would a real PITA for logistical reasons.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

How are you configuring the WiFi?
Can the printer see the access point?
Can the access point see the printer?

Thanks for the link, i hadn't tried using the software (hadn't needed to until now).

My wifi setup is just the out-of-the-box settings with WPA2 as the security. The printer can see the router but simply connect to it. I dont know if the router can see the printer as i dont know how to check.

I'll give the Cannon software a go now and see if it helps.

Thanks

I had an issue with a Kodak printer a couple of years back. I know it’s a completely different printer but had the same issue. Spent ages looking through instructions and trying to get in touch with Kodak support. In the end it turns out it was only happy with either WEP or WPA, it just would not connect to any mode of WPA2.

Might be worth temporarily setting it at a WPA to see if it takes but a bit strange if its worked fine before

Connect printer via USB install Canon software during which there should be an option to select wireless network printer. Select that you will then be able to remove the temp USB connection. Hope that helps.

Thanks. If the other methods dont work i'll try changing the security. Is WPA better than WEP?

Cheers. Once i get home i'll give all these methods a shot.
