Hey all,

So I'm off on Holiday near the end of the month, and just realised my passport expires in about 2 weeks

Has anyone any experience on urgently getting a renewal?

I think from the looks of it I might need to take a trip into London...

Thanks,
Marky

Renewed mine just before Christmas using the normal "check and send" service at the Post Office. Got it back within a week, extremely impressed :)

You can pay to get it done same day if you're really in a pinch, but a month? Just get the express service if you're desperate.

I had mine renewed within a few days last summer, by visiting the local renewal office. You make an appointment online.

If you only have the month, pay for the faster service / professional photos - while it's likely you will get it back in the week, what happens if it takes 6? It's not worth the risk.

Mine took less then 2 weeks and it took a roundabout route (required).

Yeah, go for the week urgent Fast Track service, doesn't cost that much more and will give peace of mind that it's all done before you head off. One day isn't needed.

Ordered mine 2 years ago and sent it off 19th december (it was the last friday before christmas). It was back with me by the following tuesday. I was so confused i thought they had just sent the old one back!!

Passport offices are busy in summer, not christmas. Just send it off now and it'll be back in time.

Renewed mine on the 12th December via the post office check and send service and received replacement on the 19th.

Perfect thanks for the replies guys - It put my mind at ease a little :) I think I'll go for the 1 week service just to be sure :)

If you're just renewing then you can do it online no need to go to the post office, all automated and very easy to do.

I renewed mine online and took about a week to arrive.
You will have to send them your old passport (ok, so maybe there is a need to go to the post office)

From the looks of it, if I want it within a week, I'll still need to make an appointment and go to the Passport Office. I don't think I can risk doing it online if there's a chance it could take 3 weeks...

How are they supposed to feel above the rest of us if they don't go massively overboard for something so simple?

Yes it's totally worth the risk of having all your paperwork returned and missing an important foreign trip to save £5.
Still don't let me stop you.

I once accepted a job knowing that it would entail a trip to the US within the first few weeks or so. When asked about having a valid passport I just went "yes, yes" and nodded my head, and thought nothing of it. Fast forward to the week before I started I had a trip already booked for the next week, and realised my passport was out of date

It was great fun going to the passport office whilst finishing my old job on night shifts :( Good service there, though. I'd get to the office, wouldn't risk waiting for it to come through the post.

Did you go to the London one? And if so, what was the process like? Did it take a long time?
