Managed to get through Christmas (luckily) but now my 20 year old boiler appears to be on it's last legs.

Faulting when trying to heat the HW or CH which means at best we use the immersion heater on our HW tank which is expensive and not ideal.

Any suggestions for a new boiler, as I suspect this one is not going to be repairable as parts have been hard to locate previously. Bosch seem to have been a good recommendation, but switching to cheaper parts has damaged their reputation a little of late from reviews I've read.

Boulter Buderus 600-11R boiler (yeah I hadn't heard of them either when I moved in) Unvented Indirect System for reference

Brands that I'm aware of for your research:

Baxi
Glow-worm
Vaillant
Worcester Bosch

I used to have a Glow-worm, and it was OK. Sister has a more recent Worcester Bosch and they've been pleased with it. It's also quiet and looks nice.

Might as well get a heat pump with the grant

I was tempted previously with Octopus, but with the time it takes to get a survey done it'll take too long to get one installed and supplying HW etc as I suspect the boiler is beyond economical repair. In an ideal world, I would go Heat Pump and Solar panels.

All the other brands I know of, I used to have Glo-worm years ago. My main issue is trying to get hold of a heating engineer around here, some either can't help or never get back to you.

Also, don't quote via Boiler Central. They will pester you for weeks! 3-4 calls per day.

so W-bosch Star itself is circa £1600 + 1K for fitting ... do you then take out a yearly maintenance - at what cost - with BOXT ? (hidden costs ?)

Get a big brand such as Valiant, Worcester etc. will be more parts available looking ahead.

Buy a manufacturer approved insurance plan, approx 20 a month for our now old gloworm boiler. Includes a service and valiant engineers do it, you also have cover for breakdowns and parts. Ours has had plenty of parts worth a lot more than the cover.

Has it been serviced lately as a blocked flue or heater matrix can trip the safety cut off. I kept mine going to 30 years but it's time to switch so I'm just waiting on my Octopus HP install day. This has been a long process as Octopus were still working out the processes when I fist applied but can still easily take months to work through.

Comes with a 10 year warranty, but i have taken out BG Homecare which includes a boiler annual service (£22.50 per month).

No other costs from Boxt on my install.

Try the "registered fitter" search on boiler manufacturer websites:

We have https://idealheating.com/products/vogue-max-combi OpenTherm was something I wanted. It was installed.. 7 years ago now, is serviced every year (to keep the warranty intact) and the only issue we've had was that the heat exchanged clogged up a bit around 2 years in (maybe because even tho we had new rads, we didn't have all pipework?). It still worked, just wasn't getting as hot as it should. It was fixed under warranty by Ideal, no issue / charges.

Go for a Valiant or Worcester, if funds are stretched Ideal

Either way, go on their websites, answer a few questions and see which boiler suits your needs. Then contact a few installers and you tell them which model and number you are wanting a quote for.

We found asking for quotes a minefield as they all quoted for different model numbers, a bit like when trying to get a quote for car tyres.
