All was fine and dandy, well no thats a lie, since I moved in I have had nothing but problems, and constant 404, server cannot be found etc even with OcUK. I needed to connect once every 24 hours however and that was fine with me, but for some reason and without any mention this has been changedso that we now have to log in every 8 hours, and this is a large inconvenience as I leave things running that require an active connection such as my MMO game, amd MSN, which I like to leave on while I am not there as I get important messages etc.

What I was wondering if is there is any way around this? Or if there is any way to auto reconnect so that I dont realy notice anything? This is our sign in system:

bah, your lucky!
Our uni wireless connection is dire, i have to reconnect it every 15-20 mins.
And all ports are locked down for games. mIRC, teamspeak, xfire, all games are all locked out. (It wont even let me ping/tracert)
 
that's unlucky here in Aber it is pretty good, can play CS:S no problem (in the first year anyway's not in halls at the moment)

only problem with it, was that it would disconnect over the weekend sometimes
 
Does your uni internet have problems with lots of P2P users (daft question really, of course it will ;) )? This would've been implemented to annoy the heavy bandwidth users and I doubt there's anything that you can do about it. :)

It started at 8 hour login, then went to 48 hour for 2 weeks, and then 24 hours for the past few months, now its back at 8, but tbh if I cant auto login, im gonna write a email, which sums up that if they dont put it back to 24 hours im not giving them 4 grand again next year :eek:
 
My recommendation would be to simply manually logout before starting a major undertaking like playing a MMO or whatever. Like say you've been online for 6.5hrs so far and want to play the game. That means you've only got 1.5hrs left. So simply log out and log back in again. If you need to play for more than 8 hours straight then you need help :p

8hrs is still a pretty long time and a lot better than the around 1999-2000 where many isps had a 2hr cutoff policy. As long as you manually logout/in at suitable moments I can't see it being a problem.

As for getting important messages on MSN, surely if they're that important they could email you?

Searching google does not help much on how to make a script, if someone could help me I will love thme a lot :)

Need it to go

Load URL, Pause For Logon Details To Apear, Press Logon, Pause 7 Hours, Load Logout URL, Click Logout, Repeat
 
Bah, just been to find out if this is staying and they said that they will be changing it so we have to log in every 30 mins - 1 hour soon as they need to stop p2p downloaders... How on Earth will that be any good, one game of CoH Alone lasts 3+ hours....
 
i didn't find a way around it last year when i was in the pavilions, but using a router kept my connection for the full amount of time and could use multiple devices on the same login.
