Errrr, that's contradictory if i ever heard it.
If they last ages there should be more second hand ones!
The companies that own flight cases tend to use them until they get dropped off the back of a truck and then they get thrown away.

Why not just get a couple of giant bins or buckets with lids?
My Peli case set me back close to £300 and it is not even the biggest one the do, although it makes a nice stool when you are waiting for someone. They are very durable and people will not be "throwing them out", not unless they are beyond repair and by that point, it would be useless to you.
Money well spent, but some of their big cases are impressive, especially the military range stuff.
Anyone who throws away a Peli case away is a moron. They have a lifetime warranty and honour just about any type of damage. Trust me, we destroyed a case, it was shattered. Got a nice new one in return. All you pay is postage to Peli products in the UK.
hmmmm, yeah, im starting to think that i might have been a bit ambitious when i said "flight case"
the things i was looking at were around 40 - 50 quid in a high street electrical store....

They are expensive but then you think how much is your equipment is worth and how important is your equipment to you to get to your destination in one.
Then the peli case becomes value for money, I can sit on it, stand on it, even throw it into the sea (it SHOULD float) and survives as it is water tight.
