US Centcom twitter and youtube accounts hacked

What makes you say that they seem especially social media savvy and use it to great effect in their cause. They also seem to attract educated people from all over the globe.

Just a hunch, but the wording of their tweets sounds extremely trollish:

"ISIS is already here, we're in your PCs"

Sounds very 'all your base are belong to us' IMO, some more hacktivists just making a statement?

Kind of doubt that IS are behind the hacking as you would think that they would not know how to do that, but you never know

Why would they not know how to do it? They aren't some backwards group, barefooted and living in caves. They are extremely well funded, very tech and media savvy with considerable expertise in military organisation.

Agreed, most likely just somebody trolling

Embarrassing, yet overwhelmingly inconsequential on the grand scale of things. I'd imagine IS fighters will continue being obliterated by JDAMS despite this "victory".

Surely we can't be far from the end of the world if all this keeps escalating?

That's what they're like.

This is simply a 'hack' of a twitter account...not a secure server or something with top secret data.

It's still an official USCENTCOM account that someone let the password escape for, pretty bad.

Lol cyber jihad

My thoughts exactly.

It seems convenient on the brink of western governments showing signs of wanting to infiltrate, seize and control the Internet as we know it.

This new buzzword will have brain-dead citizens wishing that the government seizes the internet, and quickly! :(

Psyops are increasing.

So are my shares in tin foil.

Not really. You'd be surprised how inept government departments are at securing infrastructure. They'll have given the social media account to someone that was "in the know" about such things. Possibly even an outside PR firm. I've heard of absolute nobodies running "social media expert" companies and the like that just get paid to tweet for corporate. They have absolutely no skills whatsoever beyond PR, they're just as inept at security as Doris from accounting who'll open any old attached file in an email if it's labelled "this will make your day!"

The guy speaking is Marcus Ranum, author of "The myth of homeland security" and a pretty big name in security, networking and vulnerabilities.

There's a reason people like Gary McKinnon spent many months undetected in actual US government systems.
