PS3 outsold the X360 by 20% in the US!!!

Its only for one week so isnt exactly saying much but thats a pretty huge change I would say (but the imminent release of the Elite isnt helping MS's case I wouldnt think - or is the Elite already on sale in the US?)....give or take though the PS3 still only sold around 50% of what the Wii did

Who was saying in another thread the PSP was a failure....with nearly 9 million sold in the US , how can this ever be called a failure (and still selling 50,000 a week)

.....who is still buying brand new gamecubes, and why?????

The DS and Wii are selling very well, the PS2, PS3, PSP are all doing average and poor MS are suffering. I wouldn't way these sales figures are anything to write home about except that it's a poke in MS's eye for Sony.

Because they are less than £30?

I think that's the closest PS3 has come to outselling PS2 so far. Not surprising with the PS2 being so cheap with new games still being released.
How long did it take for the PS2 to outsell the PS1?

Not that surprising really, the PS3 is so cheap there, it's just insanely cheap if you fancy some gaming or a Blu-Ray player, £250 or so?

I was just surprised that MS didnt sell anything like the wii in numbers, and to have such a huge % difference must put a smile on Sony's face (especially if they can keep the sales at this level for several weeks / months)

Unless im reading it incorrectly PS2 outsells PS3

That is because Sony continue supporting their consoles for a while after their new one. a lot of people where dissapointed when MS pretty much dropped all support and any games for the xbox, the very minute the 360 came out.
The PS2 had arguably its 2 best games out after the PS3's release, and it is very cheap.

I think the figures showing that the PS3 outsold the xbox 360 will be a bit of an alarm to MS actually. The US was the one thing that was holding the 360 up high.

I do want to know who the 11 nutters where that bought an xbox though lol xbmc anyone? lol

That's a bit harsh to be honest. Because of disagreements with Nvidia it wasn't really possible to continue building the Xbox.

But that was their own fault, no reason to screw consumers because of it. A company like MS not knowing how to negotiate a contract, something i didn't i'd see tbh.

They could have, but it also didn't hurt sales of the 360 did it, that no new games where being released for it. Also it didn't highlight how poor the Backwards compatibility was/is on the 360, by not releasing games on it.

Dont you think this might have suited MS though in a way?

It probably did to be honest. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if the 360 was rushed out to cover the fact that Xbox production was coming to the end of the line.

Who knows where the fault lay? It could have been Nvidia for all we know. There was obviously something very wrong and MS learnt the hard way that you have to have total control over the components in the same way that Sony and Nintendo have. Maybe developers knew that the Xbox was about to hit the buffers and decided not to develop for it. After all the supply of GameCube games has ground to a halt in quite a similar manner to be fair. Sony are the only ones who haven't killed off their previous console to make way for the new model.

No major new games are being released, the last big game was zelda.

iirc the problem was with MS not knowing how to do a hardware contract correctly. IIRC they where still paying nVidia the same amount for the GPU's when the xbox finished as when they started. They didn't build in a reducing price into the contract.
That is why MS purchased the technology outright and slapped their name all over it the 2nd time round. I don't even think the GPU has ATI on it, just MS, i am trying to remember if the box even says ATi

(at least i read an article around the time of the 360 release about that)

I don't know what happened with the Devs, maybe they did think there was no point, but games like GoW2 and FFXII must have been in the making for maybe 2 years, so surely you don't know that well in advance, unless MS said they would be winding down dev support for it. I do notice the odd annual sports title on the xbox, but that is about it.
