US Credit Hour System

Basically have a serious head-ache over American Credit Hour system, I tried google but I just cant make sense, the question is rather simple;

If I have for example 600 Study Hours in Class how many Credit Hours is that?

In other words, how many real life hours in class do you need for ONE American Credit Hour?

Any ideas?

1 credit = 1 hour

If the course is 3 credits = 3 hours in class per week

You just need to work out how many weeks in a semester

For example, 18 weeks x 3 hours a week = 54 hours in class per semester
