Okay guys silly question I know but will US Graphics Cards work okay in a Uk based system, I would assume no problem whatsoever!

A quick check because I am off to the states this summer so may have to take advantage of that exchange rate and hopefully bring back something awesome with me :)

the voltages should really be an issue as the psu would work it out

but the warranty and import tax would a problem, depends what you plan on buying though

Aye, your warranty may be void, but I'm guessing import duty and VAT won't be an issue here. ;)

Thinking of getting myself something from there myself soon, just not sure what now that I have a GTS. :)

Since they are US-built (or at least developed) products, the exchange rate won't have too much of an impact.

The markup for British products is usually a factor of VAT, import costs, and a European price markup. As the dollar grows weaker, we get the relative price drop passed along. You'll still save by buying in the US (assumming you don't get stopped at customs), but don't expect to save more than usual relative to here just because of the exchange rate.

Dunno - just did a cursory price comparison and for a BFG 8800GTX I can see quite a significant price difference - enough to justify the purchase if you happen to be going through the states. Certainly not enough to suggest buying it, getting it sent over and then having to pay VAT and P&H.

Looks like a fair saving to me.

My point is that those savings aren't to do with the exchange rate.

You will always see a big difference between US and UK prices, whether you're getting $2.00 to the pound, or $1.40 to the pound.

Ah I see what you're getting at. Very true.

Q6600 would be nice if it's affordable. ;) When is that coming out?

<speculation>
Supposed to be this quarter, at $851!! Although it is to be reduced in Q2 to $530, with the Q6400 slotting in below that price.
</speculation>

They are the same cards, there are no voltage issues to work out!

I think the OP is talking from a technical point of view, not a sales one.

Technically, ALL PC HARDWARE IS THE SAME WHEREVER YOU BUY IT.

WEll was purely technical and since its been cleared up for me then its all good I can now talk about what I would go for!

Yeah the price difference is astounding plus sometimes you can get through customs by em.....not claiming anything ;) hehe!

I remember we got back from florida with my parents once before @ 4am in manchester airport! We just walked straight through and the best part was my mum and dad had a Thomas Kincade Painting of $1600.00 in one of the cases ;)

THe thing is though I could always attempt to get them to put a sale sticker on the item or something like that in a way of getting through and paying less! The problem is the iphone will be out also, so technology spending it will be this summer!

Now will it be a 8900 :P or some sort of ATi beast?! lol
