US Plane Vs British Tank

That's an absolute disgrace. Fine, in a war situation, these things can happen, but to show such little respect for his family (by lying to them, if you've not read the article) is deplorable.

Agreed. US friendly fire should be court-marshal + prison for the buffoons who do it imo. Can't they recognise their own allies ffs?

Since when did the insurgents even have tanks?

Hardly surprising, I wouldn't want to be anywhere near the Americans. I seem to remember John Simspon in Iraq with US special forces, they got hit by friendly fire, can't remember if it was the pilots or the SF operators fault.

Terrible news really!

Yet again the American airforce get away with killing one of our boys.
Did they learn nothing from what they did during the first gulf war?

I think some of the cockpit conversation may stir up a bit of anger and that's why the MOD are reluctant. I'm sure we don't really need to hear the 'thrill of the kill' when it's our own troops involved. I don't really think it will do their familys any good to hear it either.

The A-10 is always criticised for its lack of onboard electronics/targetting.

Bit crazy considering the 'Avenger' gatling gun on the front... it will absolutely shred through anything.

Yeah, I imagine there were probably a few 'Yee Haw's in there.

You'd think after GW1 they'd have learnt not to be so trigger happy.

I've got a friend who's in the Royal Marines and he told me it was common practice for them to get out of their vehicles and take cover when they were calling in US aircraft for airstrikes because they were so incompetent.

Disgusting behaviour from our own government and the US forces. We should be pushing for action against the pilot.

Jokester

And not forgetting DU, it should be classed as illegal compound in warface. But because we're the "good guys" we can use it.

When did the government start giving a damn about the troops? We've already sacrificed hundreds for the American Empire, what difference will a few more make.

If memory serves me correctly, I think it was partially the SF operator's fault. He called in a strike, against armour ahead of their position. Unfortunately, JS & the boys were located beside an abandoned tank. The planes struck the wrong target.
This incident, like many, could have been avoided if the SF operator gave a tighter reading on the enemy location.

Mistakes get made in war and people die, this kind of thing is nothing new. On the surface American forces do seem to cause a lot of "friendly fire" damage, but it would be interesting to see how many friendly fire incidents there are, as a percentage of ordnance fired. This would be a better reflection of US fire control.

What ever the reason lying to the families is utterly wrong and a disgrace.

totally agree with you all, the americans need to egt their itchy trigger fingers off the trigger a bit more and THINK. And as for the tape all us military equipment has cameras (dont they ?) for recon and stuff. RIP soldier you served your country well
