Havent had the time to do much photography since uni`s gearing up to exams and things, but this summer I'm going to be doing the whole 'Camp America' thing in America (Wisconsin to be exact).

My dilema is, take the 300D, or the Canon A80..

Reasons to take..

More control over pictures
Faster response times
Ext Flash (500 DG)
Other benefits of SLR...

Reasons not too

Might break/get robbed..
Weight/Size (can only take so much on the plane/across America)
File sizes/storage
Would probably mean selling kit/70-300 and getting a 18-200mm to go with my 50mm

Im sure you understand what I mean, the usual, big camera vs portable camera, just as they say with these things its going to be an experiance I won't forget, and im torn between having the camera there to 'document' it as it were, as im also hoping to do a blog/journal either when im there (I doubt they will even have a single computer, and the nearest town is 80 miles away)

Thoughts, Ideas?

umm you list lots of reasons to take the 300D apart from the most obvious...it will take a hell of a lot better pictures that the A80 lol (assuming you aren't using the kit lens)

Take the 300D - if you've not got a battery grip then the body + 50mm is compact enough.

You'll only kick yourself REALLY hard if you don't, then find out that you've missed loads of opporunities.

I did the same in Mexico, took my 300D with L glass but didn't take it on a few trips and boy did I feel crappy about it afterwards.

Or even better, take both? the A80 is tiny anyway!

Agreed, take both and get yourself an external source to drop memory in, like an X Drive or something along those lines.

America has beautiful scenary and sites you really want the best kit you've got for.

the A80 isnt a bad camera, you can still get some decent shots. But as said the SLR will be better, id take the SLR if it was me.
