Hiya guys

I have to ask the question :)

How fast SHOULD a USB2 transfer be?

I have an External 500gb USB2 HD, and the new ASUS P5Q PRo is obviously USB2 as well

I was transfering a lot of my old music and files to the new Samsung Spinpoint 1TB last night, the transfer speed peaked at 28MB per second and it took ages!! (400 GB to move!)

I thought it would be a LOT faster than that, was I wrong?

That's faster than I would have expected, peak rate for USB2 is 480Mb/sec, but that's just burst-rate, sustained transfer is much less than that. If you can get 25MB/sec you are doing really well, more likely is ~12-15MB/sec. That's streaming - where small files are involved with nested directories you can see that drop further, 6-9MB/sec.

USB2 is not good for moving GBs of data.

no defo not good for moving large amounts unless youve got large amounts of time aswel :)

whats the sustained transfer rate of esata? saw on tv the other day they are developing usb 3 as week speak :)
