Not looking to upgrade my motherboard for a while so I am thinking of adding in a USB 3.0 controller card.

I was then going to buy a IcyBox with USB 3.0 to use for back-ups.

What are people opinion of the best controller card to get? And also how will the controller card compare vs built in USB 3.0?

Thanks

I got hold of a Asus U3S6, for my brother.

its said to work with only certain asus motherboards, but I have tested it in my msi board, and it works fine.

other reviews of the card, I have seen used with other manufacturer motherboards.

As long as the controller card uses a PCIe 4x slot then the speed should be identical to a built in solution since they use the same controller chips

I think the Asus one is probably the best one at the moment, as most other add in usb cards only use a pcie 1x slot, which would be a considerable bottleneck

Where do I stand on buying the Asus U3S6 and having to return it if it doesn't work.

I mean my motherboard, the CrossHair II isn't listed as compatible

I thought so. But even if I open the package, try it in my PC & it doesn't work. I can put it back in the box and return at my cost or theirs?
