Hi all,

My Corsair K90 has 2 USB 3.0 leads which currently plug into my 2 front USB 3.0 ports on the desktop. Issue is, I need an extra 1.5-2m of cable to play from the sofa (don't like wireless keyboard/mice!)

What's the best way of extending the cables:

1 - via 2 separate male to female extension leads such as http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...ue&ref_=ox_sc_act_title_2&smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE

or

2 - via an extension hub in link below (only about 30cm of lead) plus 1 of the extension leads in the option above? http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...ue&ref_=ox_sc_act_title_1&smid=A2PGPJL0BBLHLX
Will ultimately only using 1 USB3.0 port on the desktop be enough supply if the keyboard needed 2 dedicated ports to start with?

*Sorry for Amazon links but couldn't find on OCUK store*

Thanks all

I have a K90, dont need USB3, works fine off USB2 (think its only USB2 anyway, the blue is just cosmetic), mine is connected to a powered USB2 hub.

I use both connectors since use the port on the back of the K90 is for my mouse.

Thanks, I have the same setup with mouse in back of the K90. Would your setup work without it being a powered USB hub?

Hmm interesting I bought a bunch of 5m USB extensions from an seller on the 'Bay and none of the darn things worked, after contacting him he basically said because of the length of the cable they're only suitable for signal use only no powered devices i.e. mice, keyboards and not gamepads, mobile phones and the like.

Now I wonder if he was fobbing me off.

n.b. bought some 3m cables instead from a different seller and they work fine.

edit: yep after testing can confirm 5m cable will not deliver power, 3m cables are fine for powered devices.

If the K95 is like the K70, if it's plugged into USB 3 it only needs the one cable attached (the one with a keyboard printed on it), however if it's plugged into USB 2 it requires both to be plugged in.

he has a K90 not a K70

I have a K95 and manual says its USB 2, and BOTH plugs must be plugged in to work, so no idea how yours works with only the one cable

Oh oops, I thought OP said K95.

It's not very clear about the K70 RGB's power requirements, but I have read in various places that via USB 3.0, it only needs one cable plugged in. - From personal experience, the keyboard crashes with one plug plugged into USB 2.0, but works fine with USB 3.0.

The forum post above states that the K70 RGB works fine with USB 3.0 in normal operation, and I found that to be the case. When the K70 RGB is plugged into a USB 3.0 port, Corsair says that only the USB plug with the keyboard symbol needs to be used.

2nd cable is not for power but just for the pass through USB port on the rear.
