I deleted the drivers i had saved rebooted then downloaded the latest version of Renesas® Electronics USB 3.0 Host Controller then rebooted and still nothing.

it also doesn't appear in device manager>USB Controllers

cant get my head round why its not working :/

Im nearly out of suggestions.

But what i do in a situation like this is re-install and start again.

If you mean BIOS update then pick the one with the higher number.

But it shouldnt make much difference unless something has gone wrong. And the USB3.0 controller cant be disabled as you say it works with USB2.0 devices.

Sorry I've put it acros unclear on the haf x on the front it has two usb 3.0 and two usb 2.0
I tried my iPod in the 3.0 slot and it's only charges it when before it allowed access... My WD passport is a 3.0 and neither does that work on the 3.0 slot but it does on the 2.0 slot .

And this is 100% the board? - http://www.asus.com/uk/Motherboards/CROSSHAIR_IV_EXTREME/specifications/

As from reading the specs it only has USB3.0 on the rear.

SO I am going to assume either the HAFX ports are running through the case, out the back and into the two blue USB3.0 ports on the back of the board

Or!

The HAFX USB3.0 cable is actually connected internally via one of the three USB2.0 headers on the board.

Yeah that's right, the way the 3.0's are wired is by 2 blue USB fly leads that connect from the mother board to the front panel of the haf x

Try this,

With a device plugged in such as your ipad or something.

Pull those two cables out the rear and then back in.

Yeah I tried that, I also disconnected the flying leads that link to the from and connected directly to the back of the motherboard and still nothing, just give me a light on the hard drive indicating power.

It looks like I bit the bullet and wiped the hard drive ready to start again hopefully installing the drivers from scratch will solve the issue otherwise there must be an issue with the board.

Try the following, Windows USB3 drivers can get messed up. Also check you have not set the ports to charge mode or ROG connect.

  • Disable the USB3 controller in the BIOS
  • Reinstall Windows
  • Redownload all the drivers inc USB3
  • Install inc USB3
  • Enable USB3 in the BIOS

fixed :D

It took a lot!!! of time but must thank everyone for their input i tried all of it .You guys were great :)

Updated the bios
air dusted the 3.0 slots
uninstalled windows
updated latest 3.0 driver
disabled it in bios and unabled
and the rog button as mentioned :D

We cracked it and managed to nip the issue i was geting with a blue screen message randomly crashing my pc

driver_irql_not_less_or_equal

so now i can carry on with my life...

and install my new h100i and new corsair fans which is my next project

Thanks Again guys :D
