USB 3.0 not working

I have the Asus P6X58D-e motherboard and a WD Mypassport usb 3 drive.

I have USB 3.0 enabled in the bios, also have all the NEC USB 3 drivers installed but when I plug my WD in I get nothing, the drive power light comes on but I get no sound from windows and can't see the drive.

What am I doing wrong?

Device manager looks all good too.

Does it get recognized if you plug it into a USB 2 port?

you might have to update the firmware of the NEC chip.

Yea it works fine in USB 2 ports.

How do I update the firmware?

Updated the drivers to 2.1.27.0 and firmware to 3028 but still nothing.

USB 3.0 doesn't need extra power does it?

Either my boards USB 3.0 is borked or this WD drive USB 3.0 is fubar.

I'm all out of ideas.

Is it recognising USB2 devices properly?

Yes, it's a special cable that came with the WD drive.

Yes, the 3.0 ports operate USB 2.0 devices fine. I had my keyboard and mouse in them to start with.

I'm going to borrow another USB 3.0 drive off a guy at work and try that later.

Daft question, have you enable the NEC usb 3.0 controller plus other usb controllers in the BIOS?
Look at section 3.6.4 of the manual.

Sure itneeds the NEC drivers?

There are also Renesas drives, Windows 7 automatically installs the NEC one for my gigabyte,but I actually have to fight with it to install the correct ones!

After I got the latest drivers and firmware it now shows Renesas which is what NEC is called now.

Works with a different USB 3.0 drive, must be my WD drive or the cable.

Thanks for the help guys, glad it's not a motherboard fault.

Edit- not the cable.

The Drive is works so I don't care, just thought I'd make use of the speed.
