USB 3.0 Question

Hi guys, I'm sorry if this has already been asked but I cant find the answer anywhere.

Basically I recently bought a new rig which consists of a Gigabyte P67A-UD4 and Lian Li case with 2x USB 3.0 external connectors.
The 'problem' is the USB case connectors are such that they can only be wired through the case, out of the back of the case, and plugged directly into the back of the motherboard.

I was wondering if there is some sort of adapter that the usb wired can be plugged into so that i can plug the in internally into the motherboard, freeing up the usb's on the back of the motherboard?

Contact Lian Li and ask them if they intend on releasing a front panel USB3 internal header cable. You'd have thought that Lian Li would have provided internal header cables if they have USB3 ports on the case,

Yes exactly what i thought, the usb cable they provide are very thick too (just like normal usb cables,) and are abit of a nightmare to manage.

When the case was designed a standard connector on motherboards for USB 3.0 hadn't been set so cables which connect internally couldn't be provided.

It's the same with the HAF-X.

You'll need to live with it as is or wait for the case manufacturer, or other manufacturer, to produce suitable cables.

You are attempting to plug the front panel cable into the correct headers though? You'll want to be plugging the front panel cable into the F_USB3.0 socket. F_USB1, F_USB2 and F_USB3 are I imagine the headers for USB2.0

The motherboard connectors are different for USB 2.0 and USB 3.0

Only the external connections which you plug devices into are backwards compatible.

Thanks for clearing that up, i guess its just a case of emailing Lian-li to ask if/when they intend to bring out an adapter then?

Yes.

They will need to supply new cables to replace those already with the case.

Don't expect them to be cheap from Lian-Li.

Maybe someone like Akasa will produce suitable cables.

Ok thanks Surveyor.
It pretty annoying that when you buy a case that says USB 3.0 then it actually means that its going to take up 2 of your USB 3.0 external ports (in my case the all of them.)

Not so bad for me.

I have the HAF-X and an MSI P67 motherboard.

MSI supply a USB 3.0 back plate and have 2 USB 3.0 ports on the motherboard I/O so I end up with 4 USB 3.0 ports either way.

Why not make your own cable? As long as you can follow the correct pin outs, you can snip the cable and crimp on your own ends.
