USB 3.0 Transfer speeds

Just bought a USB 3.0 usb and transferring 50gb of files over. 45 mins avereging at about 10mb per second.

I thought USB 3.0 is meant to be way faster than this? I understand that its limited to read speed (in which case my 2 SSD's are in RAID) ... so i dont know why its low. Am i missing something... google says

"USB 3.0, which can handle up to 5gbps (640MBps)"

You'll be limited to the write speed of the usb device plus lower write speed if files are small (copying to usb).
But 10 MB/s is wrong not even usb2 speeds (eg a GB size file should easily copy at 40MB/s), are you copying or moving to the usb device or from the usb device?
Whats the rest of the system?
