I may be missing something obvious, but I'm looking to buy a few USB A to C cables to connect some external SSD enclosures to my PC.

Searching in the usual places, most USB C cables are advertised as charging cables. Presumably these don't have the wiring for data, which explains why despite having a drawer full of cables, only 1 works with the drive!

These are the best priced short cables I can find

Does anyone have any links or suggestions to anything better?

I was expecting to find 5 packs for a couple of quid as you do for micro USB etc. I presume USB C cables are aimed at much higher bandwidths so cost more to make?

As above the key is either putting 'data' in your search terms, or the data standard; eg 'USB 3.2 Gen 2'

I would say usb cables that don't carry data are more the exception than the norm.

That said you need a decent quality cable for decent speeds and to power usb powered enclosures. Old cables often have micro cracks in them from use. Retire old cables.

In my experience some of the charging + data cables are also woefully, painfully slow.

yeah i use their guitar cablkes, midi cables , adat [optical] cables xlr cables lol as said above they aint the cheapest [nor the most expensive] but they are generally decent quality for the costs so tend to be the first place i look when i need a cable generaly speaking
