I am going to be decorating my room over the next few weeks just when I have spare time.

I am wanting to put some USB devices (printer and scanner) on the other side of the room.

I will be running some USB cabling under the floor.

Ideally I need around 7m of cable, I plan to run two cables.

The cost of the cables seem cheap but I was under the impression USB is only good for upto 5m.

I have heard of active USB extension cables, can somebody please explain what these are, what they do and how they do it.

I think they will be what I am after, but would like confirmation.

Thanks,

Chris

To my knowledge, USB can be any length, as long as the signals can reach the computer in something like 5ms i think it is. I have two extensions joined together probably about 3 or 4 meters long and it works fine.

I have a couple of USB devices at the end of a 5m run, and found it easier to just add a simple USB hub that can be powered at the end. That will solve any issues of length etc.
