My gf's mam has a battered laptop and the usb ports are bust so that means she cant plug in her adsl as its usb. The lan port however is fine. Whats the cheapest way to connect a usb cable to a lan port? Does it HAVE to be a router and if so what the cheapest bargain basement option?...

You could try and buy a bt voyager 205 they seem to be cheap in certain places

Can you confirm that this will work, so USB from wall goes into router and then Lan cable from router to pc. Is it just a case of plug and play?

It's not USB from wall but otherwise you're right. It's not quite PnP as the router/modem has to be configured with the account name and password but this is usually easy from the web interface.

It's probably worth asking in the Members Market for a Voyager 205, any other ADSL modem or even a router. I might even reply there too.... ;)

Can you not get a usb adapter that goes into a rj45 connector. You seem to be able to get the other way around. Is there no other way to do this, will it have to be a router?
