USB audio grabbing solutions?

My gf's dad wants to encode all his old LPs onto his PC for safekeeping, he wants to do this with his laptop, but it has no audio inputs, so he wants an external usb solution. I know nothing about Laptops, so I thought I'd dip into the vast pool of knowledge on here and ask what his potential options are?

i really would recommend a simple USB turntable for this purpose.

mainly for complete ease of use as for me it was a lot quicker and hassle free than messing about connecting normal turntable to a seperate usb audio device

and remember, most turntables (well, any turntable I've ever come across) will need a pre-amp anyway.
