Recently purchased one if these just for test purposes really, with the intention of squeezing a little more from my Virgin gig1 fibre connection which comes into the router at 1.15gbps. Low and behold speeds tests show an increase in speed to my PC. I did have to play around with a lot of the advanced settings (thanks to reddit) in order to achieve this but once it was configured correctly it's been great.

What does 1.15Gbps to your PC Achieve that you couldn't achieve with 1Gbps?

That extra bandwidth would be better used for other devices on your network rather than the time spend in solving a none existent problem.

Do you have a link to the Reddit thread?
I'll pm it you.

It seems someone is bitter about how I choose to run my network for some reason. It gives me a platform to consume greater speeds and even greater once it's available to me from the market.

done this myself on an x570 board with only a 1gig lan port, but for internal network reason not to saturate the 1gb wan, would easily recommend if you have the spare usb 5gbps port and a multigig switch! cant beat doubling and then some to other networked machines or nas's etc. plus even if its only an extra 15MB on the wan, its still 15MB and in some areas more than some peoples whole connection, if you can why not.

Also how do you deal with "bufferbloat" and other problems on other devices whilst a single PC is saturating your connection?
I agree here. I would even argue you might even get a better quality connection by not going the USB-C route and keep what you had due to bufferbloat. You have an almost perfect physical barrier for it here where you don't have to introduce very computational processing SQM. One of the reasons why if an ISP ever offer the 1.2 Gbps package to me, I'll be getting it and keeping current 1 Gbps ports. It leaves a lot of wiggle room and an almost perfect anti bufferbloat measure that still allows other people to run say a 4k stream and keeping pings low.

Isn't that like asking what 300mbps does that 150mbps doesn't? It's faster.
If I could have an extra 150mbps for basically nothing I'd jump at the chance.

So some kind of weird bragging right? Once you get towards gigabit internet connections, "faster" doesn't really matter as you start to find sites and services at the other end can't keep up (or at least are intentionally limited).
The main reason for "bigger" connections is to do more at once e.g. with multiple devices.

He already does have the extra 150mbps, just for some reason everyone has this pointless obsession with wanting full internet bandwidth to a single device rather than leaving it there as natural excess for other devices/or for the router to make use of for traffic shaping etc

bragging rights on an internet connection speed? you know there's more to using the internet than just going on a website, for instance if you are streaming/downloading a lot/browsing the web all at the same time on one device for instance.
your assuming that everyone should think like you do and seem to be saying people should use there internet/devices like you do too, he's already stated that he does not have multiple devices and even if he did there's means and ways to overcome oversaturation. does come across as you being bitter that he doesnt want to do it your way :D

Given this entire forum is populated with people that have made a hobby of getting an extra few percentage points gains in graphics or CPU via very extremely esoteric cooling solutions, that don't really result in noticable real world improvements, is it so weird that someone gets some satisfication of finding a way to maximise the output of his fibre connection ?

It’s not a bragging right though. “I’ve got 1.1Gb and could go to 2.5Gb when it’s available” - cool but there’s people already on 10.

Like saying you’ve got the fastest Focus. Good for you but it’s nothing special as there’s been better for years.
