So I have a usb-c to hdmi adapter.
My goal is to output 1080p picture and 5.1 sound to my TV via av receiver or direct to TV as need arises.

I have an adapter (it's a short dogleg that needs a hdmi cable).

If I plug it into my TV I only get picture. If I plug it into my av receiver I only get sound!

This makes me think it works but I need to adjust some settings.

Any ideas?

FYI it's a surface book 2 with 1060 nvidia graphics card
FYI2 I only have this option

When you plug it direct into your TV and you get picture, are your TV speakers turned on and volume turned up?

Make sure sound on the surface book is configured to output stereo and not 5.1.

Revisiting this.
So the annoyance continues

Changed the adaptor I had for a new one. This one worked.. For 5 minutes.
When started gaming within 2-3 mins I'd get cut out for a couple of seconds (black screen) then back on. The hdmi end also got very hot. I suspect it couldn't cope. (only 60hz 1080p).

This Usb-c is a nightmare. When using display port (via Dock) absolutely no issues. But I need a USB c solution for on the road use.

Are the cables for USB to hdmi really this bad?

Tried another cable. Similar issue.
Some pixels sparkle and feed is dropped every few seconds.
Can get sound and image through to TV (not available receiver)

Ugh I might just give up with it. Damn you microsoft. Why didn't you include a display port.

Never had so many issues with cables before.
