USB card reader or memory card?

I've been having some bother with some memory cards and card readers. They are very slow to read from the SD cards, yet the built-in card reader in the laptop reads them fine. For example, the USB card readers copy at ~800K/sec, the laptop's built-in reader copies at ~15MB/sec.

Have tried the card reader in the laptop with the same speed as my desktop.

Any ideas?

This could be down to the USB bus speed. If you have USB3 try a USB3 SSD Card Reader
